Skate Instructor / Hockey Instructor – Part time – Seasonal – Battery Park City on Ice

 

GENERAL SCOPE OF RESPONSIBILITIES: 

Under the general supervision of the Hockey Director/Skating Director/ General Manager, instructs group and/or private hockey related lessons for the general public.  General responsibilities will include interacting with children and adults, demonstrating proper skating and hockey techniques, and performing various administrative and supervisory activities.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITES:
  • Actively recruits new skaters and lesson participant

  • Effectively uses customer service skills to control customer interactions.

  • Communicates all information verbally and in writing to supervisors.

  • Educates the public to the habits and attitudes of safe ice activities.

  • Accurately evaluates placements of students for skating instruction.

  • Prepares and signs all certificates and course record sheets.

  • Enforcement of all rules regarding rink policies and operating procedures.

  • Executes policies and procedures professionally and accurately.

  • Maintains a clean and safe environment for patrons and staff.

  • Responsible for completing all tasks assigned by the Skating Director on time.

  • Attends scheduled staff meetings

  • Assists in all productions and ice shows as directed by Skating Director.

  • Performs any other related or similar duty as assigned.

REQUIREMENTS:

Learn-to-Skate Instructor must have familiarity with ISI and USFSA skating programs, be a member in good standing with PSA, and have an extensive skating background.  Hockey Instructor must have an advanced knowledge in hockey and advanced skating skills.  This position can involve sitting, standing, walking, running, stooping, lifting, carrying, pushing, and pulling and will also require these functions to be performed on skates suitable for instructing lessons for ice skating or ice hockey.  Use of standard office equipment that may include computers and software packages, fax and copy machines, telephones, maintenance equipment, ice resurfacer, ice maintenance equipment, skate sharpeners and any other equipment associated with use in a recreational facility.  All instructors must be certified as New York City Fireguard through the New York City Fire Department.
